All are welcome to attend and participate in Piedmont Valley American Legion Post 311’s 35th Annual 4th of July Independence Day Parade in Piedmont, South Dakota. Shortly after receiving its Charter, the Piedmont Valley American Legion Post 311, organized and conducted Piedmont’s first 4th of July Independence Day Parade in 1986. Since its small home town beginning, the parade has grown to include over 120 entries and approximately 12,000 patriotic spectators celebrating our nation’s Independence Day.
The Piedmont American Legion Post 311’s color guard will lead the parade starting at 10 AM, from Post 311’s American Legionnaires Post Home located at 101 Pine Street, Piedmont, SD. Registration and line up for parade entries is from 8:30 AM to 9:30 AM MST at the Post 311 Post Home, except hot rod and antique car registration and line up will be on Pine Street between 2 nd and 4 th Street. Early registration is available online from the American Legion Post 311, Piedmont SD Facebook page.
The Piedmont Valley American Legion’s 4th of July Parade’s 2022 Grand Marshall is Ethan Dschaak, Principal of Piedmont Valley Elementary School. As a 23-year career education professional, Ethan’s positive impact on the students and community clearly
demonstrates his passion to influence students and communities through education is truly a labor of love. He has served the Piedmont Valley Elementary School with distinguished service since joining the Piedmont Community in 2009.
The Parade Theme for this year is “Proud to be an American!” “There are no parade entry fees. Trophies will be awarded in multiple categories immediately after the parade at the Piedmont City Park. Also, at the Piedmont City Park, there will be free watermelon, while supplies last, during the awards presentations, plus other available Concessions along with a Hot Rods and Antique Cars show.
For ease of access and parking for spectators, recommend using I-90 Exit 44 and entering Piedmont from the north to expedite movement into the parking and viewing areas as 1-90 Exit 46 is heavily congested with float entries moving into Piedmont for staging.
