Being a superstar sure is exciting. But when you’re a father, balancing tour commitments and family life can be tricky.
Fortunately for Sam Hunt, he didn’t have to spend weeks and months away from his wife and children because he brought them out on tour.
“[My family was] out with me all year on the road. My daughter’s been in green rooms … and on buses more than she has been at the house, which has been good for her in a lot of ways, but I’m glad to be back at the house now,” Sam shared with ABC Audio in a mid-November interview, after wrapping up his Locked Up Tour in September.
“We’re spending time catching up,” he says. “We’re camping this weekend and fishing a little bit, just having a big time.”
Cherishing precious moments with his daughter, Lucy Louise, 2, and son, Lowry Lee, 1, is a priority for Sam, who admits he’s “scared to death of missing too much” of their childhood.
“You know, there [are] all these … inspirational little snippet videos [on Instagram], and I see so many that talk about how fast childhood goes and, like, older dads saying, ‘Make sure you don’t miss it, make sure you don’t miss it.’ So it’s just driven [into] my head,” Sam shares.
“When I am gone for two or three days without seeing them, they change so dang much that I feel so bad when I get back that I’m like, ‘All right, whatever I have to do, I’m going to keep them with me wherever I go,'” the singer adds. “Luckily, [my wife] Hannah‘s been a good sport about that.”
“Country House” is Sam’s current single and is approaching the top 30 of the country charts. You can find it on his Locked Up EP, out now.
