The Zonta Club of the Black Hills is proud to announce its participation in the global 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, an international campaign dedicated to ending violence against women and girls worldwide.
This year, the club is committed to raising awareness in the Rapid City area with a series of impactful events to foster
community engagement and solidarity.
The campaign will kick off on November 20, 2024, at 4:30 PM. with a press conference at Halley Park, where members of the Zonta Club of the Black Hills and community allies will formally launch the 16 Days of Activism and unveil their initiative to support of ending gender-based violence.
Attendees will recognize Zonta members holding a “ZONTA SAYS NO TO VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN” banner and trees adorned with orange ribbons—symbols of the campaign’s call to action.
The public is invited and there is no charge for this event.
“Zonta envisions a world where no woman lives in fear of violence. Through the Zonta Says NO to Violence Against Women campaign, our members and allies stand together, uniting our voices to advocate for all those who have suffered gender-based violence,” said immediate-past Zonta International President Ute Scholz.
“Zonta is needed now, more than ever, to continue its work to end violence and build a better world for women and girls.”
The 16 Days of Activism, from November 25 to December 10, is an annual campaign encouraging Zonta clubs worldwide to drive advocacy and awareness efforts focused on
preventing, protecting, and prosecuting gender-based violence.
Locally, the Zonta Club of the Black Hills invites the public to participate in their events, including an exhibit at the Winter Market at Main Street Square on November 30, where silhouettes representing women lost to intimate partner violence will be displayed. Community members are encouraged to visit our booth and show their support.
Additionally, the Zonta Club invites businesses and organizations to join the campaign by lighting their buildings in orange as a show of solidarity to “Color Rapid City Orange.”
