Black Hills Community Theatre continues its 50th season with the thriller Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, which
is based on the novella by Robert Louis Stevenson. In the back alleys of Victorian-era London, Dr. Henry
Jekyll experiments with “tinctures and powders” which unleash his sensual and villainous other self – Edward
Hyde. Stevenson’s classic is adapted by Jeffrey Hatcher, one of the most prolific and critically acclaimed
playwrights in contemporary American theater. This production contains violence, adult themes, and
substance abuse.
Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde will mark the BHCT directing debut for new Artistic Director Zach Curtis. Curtis
hails from Minneapolis, where he was a professional actor, director and scenic designer for over 25
years. BHCT audiences will already recognize Zach from his performance as Daddy Warbucks in Annie
last month. This adaptation is performed by an ensemble of only six actors who portray all the
characters in the tale. The cast of BHCT veterans features Jace Brock, Rodger Hartley, Jason Knox,
Michelle Martinson, Jeffrey Alan Smith and Kory Yamada.
Black Hills Community Theatre (BHCT) will be celebrating its 50 th season starting in 2017-2018! Every
