Bobby Bones felt bad for two artists when he came into Bobby Bones Show this morning.
First was Jelly Roll for having to deal with trolls online. There have been some recent photos of Jelly Roll with President Trump and someone responded saying “I bet you voted for Trump.” That’s when Jelly Roll had to remind the troll that he’s never voted and never been able to since he’s a felon. Bones felt bad that Jelly Roll even had to respond to the topic and remind people of that part of his story.
Then, Bones addressed the controversy around Shaboozey not taking home Single of the Year at the CMA Awards. Everyone thought he was going to win the award for “A Bar Song (Tipsy),” the show members even admitted they voted for him and were rooting for him to win. Bones also recognized that people were throwing around that race is the reason he didn’t win. However, Bones noted that despite the show playing the song along with several other radio stations, there were still some radio stations that didn’t. And those same radio stations that didn’t play the song are also voters for the CMA Awards so it’s highly likely those particular people weren’t voting for Shaboozey’s song to win. He continued sharing that it wasn’t a race thing, it was an awards show thing because there is no perfect award system. There are some award shows that are fan voted, but in those situations often times the most famous artists are always the ones to win. For the CMA Awards, there are several people across the industry who have access to vote from radio to record labels to management to writers, so that’s often why there are upsets because so many people are voting for different things.
