Black Hills Ghost Towns

The Journey Museum & Learning Center is excited to announce the next event in its Fall Learning Forum series, set for Sunday, October 29th titled, “Black Hills Ghost Towns”. Presenter Bill Swanson will investigate the numerous, spooky ghost towns found in our area.

“Black Hills Ghost Towns” Learning Forum will begin at 2 p.m. on October 29 in The Journey’s Wells Fargo Theater. Bill Swanson will teach viewers what a ghost town is,where they are and what to look for when you’re out exploring the Black Hills.

Bill is a graduate of Sturgis Brown High School and the United States Merchant Marine Academy. He spent 20 years sailing as an officer on oil tankers and as an officer in the USNR.  He has a teaching degree from BHSU in science and is certified in history.  Swanson has been teaching Ghost Towns of the Black Hills since 1998, when he took over for his father, who ran the class since 1976. Currently, he is a science teacher for Lemmon High School.

Learning Forums are wide-ranging, thought-provoking presentations. Each program features a forty-five minute presentation, followed by an open forum with questions and discussion about the topic.

Admission is $12 for adults, $10 for seniors, half-off for members & free for students with a paid adult/senior admission (includes museum admission).

The Journey Museum and Learning Center was established in 1997 and is conveniently located in downtown Rapid City at 222 New York St, 2 blocks east of the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center right across from the Club for Boys.
